As design follows materials, it's necessary to define what these will be. Natural, non-engineered building materials have the the dual advantages of harmonizing with an outdoor setting and reflecting the ideals and aesthetics of both Tyler and John.

Wood

There are many fallen trees near the river, some of which may have salvageable wood. Additional wood could be sourced from nearby mills who practice sustainable harvesting.

Stone

Most of the stone found around the Watkinson campus is of a brown sandstone variety found commonly in local architecture and masonry walls.

Reclaimed Materials

There is a baffling amount of building materials currently in the waste stream. This project may offer a setting to give some of those materials, such as decommissioned telephone poles, new life.
